Katavi’s wetlands are unrecognizable in a prolonged drought, reduced to fetid, overcrowded mud wallows. At last, rains resurrect the river, inch by inch. Tensions wash away as hippos and crocodiles rejoice in the return of deep water … but flooding traps lion cubs in a precarious position.
